Wishaw and District Housing Association - Rent Arrears

Since rental income is the only source of money Wishaw and District Housing Association has to fund the provision of management and maintenance services it is vital that we make sure we minimise any losses.  Additionally it is not fair on the tenants who faithfully pay their rent on time if the Association does not effectively deal with those who don't

However, we also recognise that many people will experience some financial difficulties at some point and may, for a period of time, find it difficult to manage their money and meet all of their financial commitments.  Very often this leads to people falling behind with their rent payments resulting in rent arrears.

If you find yourself with rent arrears, Wishaw and District Housing Association wants to help you
and your Housing Officer will work with you to assist you to get the advice and support you need.

BUT we can only help you help yourself and you need to co-operate and keep in touch with us.  If you don't you are risking legal action being taken against you.  As a very last resort the Association may have to consider asking the court for a decree for eviction which could result in you losing your house.

It is therefore very important that you respond to letters, visits or cards you receive from the Association regarding arrears in your rent account.

Further information and advice on dealing with rent arrears is available in Wishaw and District Housing Association's  Rent Arrears and Eviction information leaflets.

More detailed information on how the Association deals with rent arrears is provided in the Rent Arrears Policy.
