Wishaw and District Housing Association are delighted at the success of our application for funding to develop a piece of unused ground at the entrance to our Easter Road development in Shotts. We are unable to utilise this ground as a building plot since it is deemed unsuitable due to access requirements for a storm cell unit.
This funding has been awarded through the Environmental Key Fund (Blacklaw Windfarm Community Fund) and Wishaw and District Housing Association has now been given consent by EKF to proceed with the Community Eco-Garden Project which we hope to commence in the very near future.
Over the last year Wishaw and District Housing Association have consulted with Association tenants and held various meetings with Dykehead Primary School to discuss the best way the space can be utilised, but still provide access requirements for a storm cell unit. From the outset the school have been very keen to use the space as part of their Eco School Studies
The aim of Wishaw and District Housing Association is to regenerate this ground by creating a designated garden for the community. This garden, we envisage, will create a space that can be used for
Visually the area will be transformed from being unsightly to aesthetically pleasing.
It is intended that the Eco-Garden Project will be driven by the community and local school children with support from Wishaw and District Housing Association, who will be co-ordinating the development of the project.
